Today Karen Tyrrell, author of fiction and memoir, shows us how to be more proactive about our online presence.
What is your proactive author platform? Who is your target audience? How can I reach my audience?
What is my pro-active author platform?
For me, Karen Tyrrell, I’m a resilience author specializing in children’s problem/ solution fiction stories that offer coping skills for children and families. I maximize my author platform via writing books with high publishing standards, blogging with valued added messages, reaching out to several social networks, public speaking, workshop presenting and media interviews.
Who is my target audience?
For Bailey Beats the Blah and Stop the Bully my main target audience is children, parents, families, teachers, counsellors, grandparents, schools, pre-schools, writers for children, reviewers, librarians, mental health agencies and book shops.
With my new release picture book, Harry Helps Grandpa Remember I asked myself: what is the big picture of my book? Who will benefit from this heart-felt about the love between a little boy and his Grandpa with Alzheimers. My target audience included those listed above, plus an older demographic, nursing homes, carers for the aged, support groups for Dementia and Alzheimer’s.
How do reach my target audience?
I throw the widest possible net by blogging from my website with valuable information then I share on social media, especially to target interest groups. For Harry Helps Grandpa Remember, I became an expert on brain health with offering hope to families with Dementia, sharing prevention tips by writing blogs and magazine articles on the topic plus sharing memory boosting tips. I present face-to-face talks and workshops at libraries, bookshops, conferences, festivals, and to groups. I send out thought-provoking press releases with the aim to attain newspaper and radio interviews which help to spread the word. I advertise my events by creating and distributing online flyers, create a Facebook events page, and advertise on Free events sites such as Go Duckling, Brisbane Kids, and Visit Brisbane.
How do you MAXIMISE your author platform?
You must engage with people on a one-on-one basis. Develop lasting friendships and partnerships. Help other writers who are just starting out or who want to improve their writing skills. Give them friendly advice and encouragement.
How did I Maximize Sales with Harry Helps Grandpa Remember?
I ensured Harry Helps Grandpa Remember was listed with as many online and bricks and mortar stores as possible. Firstly I listed Harry Helps Grandpa Remember on Amazon via LSI which then generated listings with international bookstores including Barnes & Noble. I listed Harry Helps Grandpa Remember on Nielsen Data and with all major library services. I contacted bookshops to tell them about Harry. Harry is now available from Amazon, Dymocks, Mary Ryans, Angus & Robertson, Riverbend, The Mad Hatters Bookshop, and many Indie shops. www.karentyrrell.com
